Future Streets

Our interactive map to help us plan 91¸£ÀûÉç streets

As part of Our Future Streets strategy, our Street Allocation Framework provides a blueprint for how we can bring about positive changes to streets across 91¸£ÀûÉç.

It is the starting point for designing all future projects and helps us deliver a clear, coherent and efficient network for all modes of travel, including general traffic.

Importantly, it helps us engage on any proposals and show you how these fit into citywide plans. You can use this framework to help you understand how a street, neighbourhood or project is part of the wider city network.

It guides us on how much space we can provide for each mode of travel without compromising the citywide integrated networks, and helps us to try to accommodate everyone's needs in the designs as far as we possibly can, including

  • pavements for walking and wheeling
  • creating a more pleasant environment to spend time, with benches, seating and planters
  • providing local access, loading and parking for blue badge holders and others with mobility issues
  • bus priority at junctions and bus lanes
  • safe cycling, including protected cycle tracks
  • space and priority for trams where relevant

Interactive map

This map is for professionals and project managers to use for technical planning, developing design concepts and to support us in talking to partners, community groups and stakeholders.

How to use the map

  • You can turn layers on and off according to the questions you are trying to address.
  • Look at each individual layer of the map first to understand the level of service for each travel mode and place.
  • Then explore the integrated layers.

This approach will help us develop fully integrated networks at both strategic and local levels, and support discussions around any compromises between travel modes across the citywide network.
