General English courses: Centre for Open Learning, University of 91¸£ÀûÉç

General English courses (ESOL) delivered face to face on Holyrood Campus of the University of 91¸£ÀûÉç. Please, note, we do not offer literacy courses. Learners need to be able to read and write in the Latin script.

Registration is now open for term 2

The academic year is divided into three terms of ten weeks

  • term 1: starts 30 September 2024
  • term 2: starts 20 January 2025
  • term 3: starts 14 April 2025.

Course programme in term 2 starts on 20 January 2025

  • Beginners Step 2 (CEFR level A1) on Thursdays, 11.10am to 12.40pm
  • Elementary Step 2 (CEFR A2.1) on  Tuesdays, 11.10am to 12.40pm
  • Elementary Step 5 (CEFR A2.2) on  Thursdays, 11.10am to 12.40pm
  • Intermediate Step 5 (CEFR B1.2) on Tuesdays, 5.30pm to 7.00pm

Each class runs for 90 minutes.

Beginners Step 2, Elementary Step 2 and Elementary Step 5

These are daytime classes reserved for displaced people and are free of charge. The first class will be in the week of 20 January 2025.

Intermediate Step 5

The classes are in the evening for a mixed audience. They are open to the general public for a fee, and there are free places reserved for displaced people. Please note, displaced people will learn and interact with learners from a variety of international backgrounds.

Registration for all our General English courses starting in term 2 is already open. Before you register, please, check which level of General English is right for you, by using the centre’s  on the university’s website. If you are

  • a displaced person please  before 03 January 2025
  • a member of the general public please either
    •  before 13 January 2025
    • in person at our reception in the Centre for Open Leaning, University of 91¸£ÀûÉç, Paterson’s Land, Holyrood Road, 91¸£ÀûÉç EH8 8AQ.
